Solar Power Energy Supplies

Many of our products can be powered by a cost-effective solar system. This is particularly useful in remote locations where mains access is impractical, for example at a remote worksite like a quarry or mine.

The installation of the solar panels takes a few days and provides many years of free electricity and trouble free reliability. Importantly, solar power reduces our CO2 emissions and provides a more sustainable power source.

EDS only install high quality thermal solar panels using selective coating technology to convert light into heat. Solar panels are also sometimes called solar collectors. Our solar systems are designed from high quality components intended for a long system life, working collectively as a complete thermal solar solution to power your gates, barriers or traffic control system.

Solar Panels

Positioning the solar panels is important to obtain optimum performance. Panels should ideally be mounted at an angle of between 30 and 60 degrees on a South facing surface that is not shaded by overhanging trees, buildings or structures. Good results can be obtained by positioning the panels facing anywhere in an arc between South West and South East, but due south facing provides optimum performance in the Northern hemisphere.

Our Solar Powered Products

Lifting barriers across rural roads or at the entrance to private car parks are the ideal candidates for solar power. Counterweights are used to assist the lifting of the arm, ensuring only minimal power is needed to open or close a barrier.

Integrated backup batteries offer capacity for up to 100 uses per day, ensuring your barriers continue to work day in, day out.

Several elements of the state-of-the-art traffic management system we installed at London Luton Airport are solar powered, with large backup batteries providing the capacity needed to operate the system without any sunlight.

The use of renewable energy sources where possible was a key requirement for the Airport, who were keen to reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs.
