EDS have recently completed an upgrade of the CCTV system at Birmingham’s Bank House – The Financial Centre.
The project involved replacing all existing CCTV cameras and recorders and upgrading to the latest technology. For security reasons limited information is available.

Birmingham’s Tallest Building

When international property experts GVA Grimley, now Avison Young, wanted the electrics of Birmingham’s tallest building, the Alpha Tower, tested and certified they put their trust in EDS. We have long been established as an Avison Young preferred suplier. At 28 floors and 328 feet high it certainly is a challenge; the complex wiring infrastructure and mains distribution was huge as you would imagine in a building of such scale.

All services such as power, lighting, plant, lift motor rooms and air conditioning were identified, tested and marked for future use. Unusual items were also tested, including the roof mounted mobile phone and taxi-cab radio transmitters. We even tested the roof mounted window cleaning lift system which travels down the outside of the building and runs around the roof structure on train-like tracks.

The project involved testing every piece of wiring within each floor. Where instances of faults were located, they were rectified during the course of the testing, without the need to revisit the area.

Overall the project took in excess of 24 months to test, rectify and pass off all floors; a testament to the engineering capabilities of the EDS electrical team.

Birmingham City Council Frankfurt Market

When Birmingham City Council wanted a fast turnaround to carry out the electrical testing of the Frankfurt Market they turned to EDS. We received a phone call on the Tuesday asking if we are able to carry out the electrical testing of the market stalls, and by 7:00 the next morning a team of 6 engineers were on site carrying out the testing. The testing was completed over a period of four days, ensuring the market stalls all opened on time and more importantly safely.

Each stall needed to be tested to ensure strict compliance with the City Council’s requirements, as these stalls had travelled from as far afield as Germany and beyond. The German Christmas Market has become a traditional part of the run up to Christmas in Birmingham, stretching up New Street and into Victoria Square, with a mixture of gifts and food.
